Liza Boubari on Where Healing Begins

Did you know your body has an incredible capacity for restoration? In many cases, given the right environment— physically, mentally, and emotionally— it can begin to recalibrate and recover in ways we often underestimate. More and more, people are beginning to recognize this innate intelligence within, tapping into the connection between mind and body to support their own wellness. Some discover this insight after years in high-pressure careers, realizing that real answers don’t always lie in pushing through, but in pausing—and looking within. Liza Boubari is one of those individuals. A former legal assistant who once believed pain was just part of the grind, she is now a clinical hypnotherapist, stress management consultant, and founder of HealWithin, a wellness practice focused on helping people address and release the emotional and mental patterns that often go unnoticed.

But her journey didn’t begin with credentials—it began with crisis. “I didn’t find hypnotherapy,” she says with a soft smile. “It found me.”

After enduring multiple ovarian surgeries and facing the prospect of a third, she began searching for answers that conventional medicine couldn’t give her. It was a referral from an acupuncturist that introduced her to hypnotherapy, a turning point that not only led to her recovery without further surgery but sparked a radical shift in how she understood pain, purpose, and healing.

Today, more than 25 years later, she helps others do what she learned to do for herself: quiet the noise of the world and tune into their inner truth. At the core of her work are two original systems: the 3E Method (Evoke, Embrace, Evolve) and the 33 Day Method, which offers a new approach to long-term habit change and self-empowerment.

In this illuminating conversation, she opens up about the courage to change, the wisdom of the subconscious mind, and why lasting healing always starts from within.

Origins and Personal Transformations

Liza, your transition from the legal world to holistic healing is remarkable. What made you take that leap?

I didn’t plan it, honestly. I was working for a well-known attorney, running court files, managing legal cases, and living a very fast-paced, high-stress lifestyle. On the outside, I looked “put together,” but inside, I was exhausted and emotionally depleted. When I developed ovarian cysts and was told I needed another surgery, I just knew I couldn’t keep going this way. That’s when my acupuncturist asked, “Have you tried hypnotherapy?” That simple question shifted the course of my life.

What was your first experience with hypnotherapy like?

It felt like someone finally handed me a mirror, not to judge myself, but to understand myself. I was able to see that the pain I was experiencing wasn’t just physical. It was my body’s way of asking me to stop, listen, and heal emotional wounds I had buried. I realized that healing is not just about medication or surgery- it’s about addressing the root causes, the suppressed feelings, the patterns we repeat without even knowing.

What does “HealWithin” mean to you now, 25 years later?

It means choosing to look inward for answers. We live in a world that constantly pushes us outward for validation, for achievement, for comparison. HealWithin is an invitation to pause and listen to your wisdom. The answers we seek are often already inside us; we just need to create space and safety to hear them.

What do you hope your legacy will be?

I want to help people remember that they are whole. That healing is not fixing something that’s broken; it’s about coming home to who you are. My legacy, I hope, will be in the hearts of those who now feel lighter, clearer, and stronger because they dared to believe in themselves again.

Philosophy and Methodology

Is that what led to the creation of your signature 3E Method?

Exactly. Over time, working with clients and observing my growth, I developed the 3E Method of Evoke, Embrace, Evolve.

  1. Evoke is about uncovering what’s buried in your subconscious. Old beliefs, traumas, and habits.
  2. Embrace means accepting what you find without shame or judgment.
  3. Evolve is the transformation. It’s where healing happens.

This method allows people to confront themselves compassionately and then move forward with intention.

Many people are familiar with the idea that it takes 21 days to change habits. Why do you advocate for 33 days?

Great question. The 33-Day Method came from both intuition and research. While 21 days can start a shift, I found that most people revert shortly after unless there’s deeper alignment. Thirty-three days allow you to not just start a new habit but also solidify it on a subconscious level. It’s also a spiritually significant number, representing abundance, alignment, and ascension. I even presented this to Jack Canfield, and he said it offered a refreshing shift from the traditional model.

You speak often about the power of the subconscious mind. Why is it so central to your work?

Because that’s where our true programming lives. The subconscious is formed by our earliest experiences. What we’re told, what we see, what we internalize. Even if our conscious mind wants to move forward, the subconscious can keep us stuck in fear, guilt, or unworthiness. Hypnotherapy lets us access that layer safely and rewire it so we can live more freely and authentically.

In what ways do you see unhealed emotional pain affecting physical health?

All the time. I’ve worked with clients who had chronic migraines, IBS, even infertility, conditions that improved dramatically once they processed, suppressed grief, anger, or fear. Our bodies are messengers. When we don’t listen to our emotions, they show up in physical form. Healing emotionally is often the first step toward physical recovery.

Do you believe everyone could be healed?

I believe everyone can begin healing. Healing doesn’t always mean curing a disease; it means coming into harmony with yourself. Some people heal in body, some in spirit, some in both. But yes, the healing potential is innate in all of us. We just have to be willing to begin.

 Client experience and Impact

Who are the kinds of people who come to you for healing?

All walks of life, entrepreneurs, mothers, veterans, and teenagers. Some are dealing with anxiety or chronic pain, others with self-worth or grief. But the common thread is that they feel disconnected from their truth. They’re often high-functioning but hollow inside. Through our work, they learn to hear their inner voice again, to trust it, and to stand tall in their worth.

How do you help clients who are skeptical or nervous about hypnotherapy?

I meet them where they are. I explain that hypnotherapy is not about losing control, it’s about gaining insight. We always start with relaxation and trust-building. I don’t push. When clients feel safe, they naturally open up, and that’s when the work becomes transformative.

Can you walk us through what a typical session with you looks like?

First, we talk. I want to understand the client’s story. What brought them in, what they’re struggling with, and what patterns they’re noticing. Then we shift into the hypnotherapy portion, where I guide them into a relaxed state. From there, we access the subconscious and explore what’s holding them back. Each session ends with grounding, and I often give tools or journaling prompts for integration between sessions.

You work with both individuals and groups. How is group healing different or similar to one-on-one work?

Group healing is powerful because of the collective energy. You realize you’re not alone. There’s something sacred about being witnessed in your healing journey. One-on-one sessions, however, allow for deeper personalized work. I love both, and I often recommend people do a combination if they can.

Culture and Stress

What are some of the biggest misconceptions about hypnotherapy you encounter?

A common misconception is that it’s mind control or some sort of trick. It’s not. It’s a therapeutic process where the conscious mind takes a back seat so we can work directly with the subconscious part that stores beliefs, trauma, fears, and desires. People are always in control. They gain more control by learning how their mind truly works. It’s a beautiful partnership between the facilitator and the client.

In today’s fast-paced world, many people struggle with burnout and chronic stress. What’s your advice for them?

Stop glorifying busy. Your worth isn’t tied to your productivity. Learn to pause. Rest is not weakness. It’s wisdom. When you rest, you recalibrate. You access clarity. Your nervous system thanks you. We’ve normalized burnout, but it’s not normal. It’s a cry for reconnection with self, with breath, with purpose.

Personal Practices and Beliefs

What practices do you use personally to stay aligned and balanced?

I meditate daily. I journal. I do breathwork. I set boundaries with love. And I spend time in silence. As someone who holds space for others, I have to be intentional about filling my cup. I walk my talk because integrity matters to me.

Any final words of wisdom to share?

The power to heal is already within you.
